The Xtreme upgrade program was introduced to support and radically modernize the popular Surface Science Instruments ESCA product line. It provides increased system reliability through improvements to electronic and software technology in addition to simplifying overall system operation. While over the last 16 years we have focused on developing individual subsystems we are now announcing an aggressive full system makeover.

The outcome is i XPS - an instrument especially developed for the information age! The most current microcontroller technology is implemented to provide optimal system performance while our new NetXPS software fully integrates the instrument with the user’s own internal network and the world-wide Internet. New system automation provides user friendly operation and programmable sample loading and analyses via a local desktop or remote laptop computer. The SPI philosophy also emphasizes reduced equipment cost in addition to minimizing time consuming setup and maintenance tasks using the fully automated sample alignment and remote systems diagnostics.

The Xtreme instrumentation offers the latest features, while preserving the widely accepted physics platform of the original SSI ESCA. It is a cost effective solution which offers the user the full functionality of the SPI Xtreme ESCA while permitting very significant cost savings which can then be applied to alternative programs – e.g. another surface technique.
